Miksproductions is an artistic collaboration between cousins; the expression of the family bond of a common growing up, and a mutuality in the experience of the world. Through both their necessity for creation and expression in their late teenage life, the cousins Akiko Mik and Elèni Mik started writing music together. Six years later, they are publishing their debut EP, which reflects this beginning, which they started conceptualizing in 2020. miksproductions combines both cousins’ wide range of interests: from songwriting and composing, electronical soundscaping, sound-, video- and performance art and philosophical explorations, all the way to the musical traditions of the maqam music. The two multi-instrumentalists, as miksproductions, have become a co-composing duo, where every sound is created, thought of, and felt together.

Miksproductions is an artistic collective consisting of two cousins, Eleni Mik and Akiko Mik, who combine their wide range of interests, from songwriting and composing in free structures, to electronic soundscaping, together with an interest in video and performance art, to create music. Through a conceptual approach, they explore their perception of the world, shaped by their similar upbringing and family ties, and turn it into an expression of their shared inner world.

‘Heavy Water’ is een EP over het verlies van het contact met het ‘buiten’, en het vastzitten in een eindeloze zee van gedachten; de verschillende onderdrukkingen waarin gedachten zich kunnen wanen, en het eindeloze ‘met jezelf bezig zijn’. Wanneer raken we opgesloten? Wanneer raken we vervoerd? Wanneer raken we verdwaald? Wanneer verdrinken we in onze eigen gedachten? Van gedachtelijke opsluiting tot hubris, stelt dit EP met een mix van uitgestrekte en gedeconstrueerde melodieën, oorsuizende synths, huiselijke geluiden en upbeat techno de vraag: Hoe kunnen we uit onze gedachten vluchten? We zoeken eindeloos naar antwoorden, en soms raken we alleen maar meer verstrikt door deze zoektocht. Is een antwoord gevonden, een geluk, of een ontsnapping, noodzaakt het cyclische leven weer een einde, een terugval, terug naar onze eigen psyche, en zo gaat het eindeloze spel van het leven door.

‘Heavy Water’ is an EP about losing touch with the ‘outside’, and being stuck in an endless sea of thoughts; the various oppressions thoughts can imagine themselves in, and the endless ‘self-absorption’. When do we get locked up? When do we get transported? When do we get lost? When do we drown in our own thoughts? From mental confinement to hubris, this EP, through a mix of expansive and deconstructed melodies, overstimulating synths, homey sounds and upbeat techno, poses the question: How can we escape our thoughts? We search endlessly for answers, as a result to only become more entangled. Once an answer, a moment of happiness, or an escape is found, the cyclical nature of life necessitates another end, a relapse, back into our own psyche, and so the endless game of life continues.
